«The Importance of the Human Factor in Project Management» by Mr. Michael Sypsomos

Project management has proven to enable organizations of any size and type in any industry worldwide to gain a competitive advantage, build and maintain growth, and achieve greater project management performance than other organizations.

However, the importance of the human factor, although very important, does not pay due attention to project management.

Today's project manager addresses many issues beyond the schedule and cost of each project. Every project management area is heavily influenced by human relations issues. The project manager must deal with various conflicts every day and manage people appropriately so that the project is properly executed. Most of the failures of older projects, after careful analysis, showed that the organization failed to identify, prevent and address one or more human issues.

It is vital that senior management should have a better appreciation of the role it plays in staffing and organizing projects. Most of the time, senior executives do not have a sufficient understanding of the technical nature of the project but still provide technical guidance that often proves to be incorrect and ends up deteriorating the value of the project and discouraging the team. There needs to be more training for executives to tackle these issues and provide them with the knowledge to give the right direction to their project teams and to increase their output. Properly trained executives can make the right information to make the right decisions and learn how to best support them; this in itself can not only prevent potential damage to projects but also achieve exceptional success.
